  • 5.0 out of 5 stars from CoolCalmCollect -- Historical Fiction That Turns Ayn Rand on Her Head : I LOVED this book! The author has done a magnificent job blending fact and fiction, demonstrating his clear knowledge of the history of the Tay Bridge — from its earliest design stages to its tragic fall — while creating a compelling fictional storyline, with rich and relatable characters, that bring this true tale to life. • 5.0 out of 5 stars from TCM Practitioner -- A masterpiece! : Abrams is a writer steeped in literature, history, and the full spectrum of the human condition. The book courses through a fascinating moment in time, when Americans and Germans are turning to steel while cast iron is still being used in Britain. The book is wrought like a steel sword as it bends and folds through a brilliant and complex journey, taking the reader not only into the construction of the bridge but the hearts and minds of those who played a role in its creation. • 5.0 out of 5 stars from Amazon Customer -- Couldn't put it down! : Fantastic book that grabs the reader from the very start. The characters are well developed and the story is engaging. I didn't want it to end and was left asking "what happened to....", which is sign of a wonderful piece of literature in my opinion. I am eagerly awaiting more books from this writer. • 5.0 out of 5 stars from Amazon Customer -- Make This Novel Into a Movie! : If you are a movie producer or director, run, don’t walk, to turn this novel into a Merchant Ivory style movie. Death Came Swiftly has all the makings: strong characters, intriguing conflicts, period piece settings, a great story line, and, of course, a love triangle. You will learn more than you thought you could understand about the engineering of bridges while being transported to an era long gone. Plus, it’s based on the true story of the bridge’s collapse, so you get a little history and geography thrown in as well. ( Reviewed in the United States on October 13, 2021 )
  • 5.0 out of 5 stars from Terryl -- Great read! : I really enjoyed this book. If you like historical novels you won't be disappointed. I found both the characters and the story behind the Tay Bridge to be very entertaining. I wondered if the engineering part of the story would be too technical for me, but instead I found it to be very interesting and easy to understand. I highly recommend this book; I finished it in a couple of days and I'm a very busy person. ( Reviewed in the United States on October 13, 2021 )

  • 5.0 out of 5 stars from Carin Lamm -- A gripping historical novel : This is a gripping historical novel with terrific character development. The author does a fantastic job of creating intrigue while simultaneously providing a detailed account of what it takes to design and build bridges. His writing draws you into the process of both the engineering of the bridge and the stories around the personalities involved. I highly recommend it and look forward to Mr. Abrams next book. • 5.0 out of 5 stars from JS -- Its a brilliant book, you guys should read it. : Abrams makes you feel alive in a fascinating chapter of history when steel was coming on the scene yet the longest bridge in the world was being built in Scotland using cast iron. Written in a contemporary voice, the book begins on the train, steaming into the wind, leading to a timeless drama painted around those involved in creating the doomed structure beneath it.
